My favorite spooky month.
When the leaves are on full display, and steadily abandoning their summertime post in lieu of their winter resting places. The symphony of colors, warm breezes, and chilly nights create the most spectacular moments to create memories.
We capture the last few warm days outside, clean up the gardens, and close up the house against the incoming cold.

Itβs also a time to celebrate in our house with the birthday celebration for our oldest son. This year, somehow, he will be turning four. These years have flown by so fast I barely know what to do with myself. The picture above is actually from the day before I went into labor with him. My husband and I went for our last solo date day, walking all around town, eating yummy food and having the best ice cream. I remember walking slowly around the streets of Exeter, NH not realizing how often I would look back on that day with a strange sense of peace at that chapter closing and also a deep longing for it to come back.
October is a time of beauty and silence. The mornings and evenings fall heavy with darkness. I notice my children sleeping later in the mornings (thankfully) and my own internal clock slowing down to zero earlier in the evenings.
In the still of these quiet moments, I hope to find a few things: time to feel my unborn baby bump against my belly; the soft snuggles of my two-year-old cuddling in with me to watch another Trash Truck; the amusing ramblings of my four-year-old figuring out the world around him.
Also one who loves a good spooky season, Iβm here for the jump scare shows, the creepy holiday baking, and the overdone yards with the ten foot tall Halloween decor. Ever since childhood, when my sister & I were gloriously the only kids on our street, thereβs been just something magical about choosing a costume, watching it come to life & running wildly through the streets to show it off.
Of course, we grew up in western Massachusetts, so some years we were bundled in our winter coats and even one year in SNOW-PANTS, but still. A well made costume by my mom was always a hit with the neighbors.
As October begins & the month continues to become cozier and spookier at the same time, I hope you find your own way to slow down and notice the little things in your world.
The colors getting brighter π
The nights getting darker π
The world growing quieter & settling in for the cold.
Grab some hotter coffee, a big blanket & a good book (anything by Stephen King would work). Cozy up, cozy in & begin to rest.
Welcome to October ππ
