Today was an eye opener for me.
As I’ve navigated through these last few months of wanting to be more self sufficient in my home, I’ve really been giving thought to who I am following, listening to & being influenced by. In replacement of my previous fitness focused, hustle culture, boss babes I’ve been refocusing on holistic medicine, home cooks, and homesteading mommas. Not that I don’t occasionally go back to my powerhouse women (my admiration of Ashy Bines will never change), but overall I’ve just decided it’s time for a change.
So one thing I’ve updated is my podcast selection. And today I stumbled upon a new one that I’m now obsessed with called “Old Fashioned on Purpose”. During my 5 hours of commute time today (yup, that’s right) I listened to an entire season of this new podcast, during which the host shared a lot of her experience that lead her to homesteading and her own experience of being in the online space. So much of her story was relevant to me, but one thing that stood out was this common theme of just TRY. Just do the work. Just start.
Progress over perfection.
Messy action towards your goal is better than sitting in the uncomfortable sameness that you’re not enjoying.
You can learn along the way.
And every day just get 1% further along – 1% better.
Wanting to be less of a consumer and more of a creator is her tagline and my goodness was that exactly what I needed today! It summed up everything I have been feeling these last few months.
Her call to action has lead me to making this post. I am done waiting for the right time to blog. The right conditions to create. The truth is I love doing this – even if it’s not perfect. Even if only one person reads it. as I write this my 6.5 month old son is nursing and my 2 year old is searching for his stuffy. It’s loud. There’s chaos. I had a really long day, on the heals of another really long day. Frankly I’m exhausted and I could have used all that as an excuse. But not today. Nope.
This post is my 1% better today. It’s my starting point to be honest with myself and to put out there what I want to give to the world.
I hope I’m helping someone else with this message. If there’s something you want, stop waiting. Just get going. That perfect time isn’t coming.
If you’re like me – a full time working mom who also wants to be more of a creator & producer than just a constant consumer – let’s support each other. And be honest with each other. This will be HARD. This will bring us to the absolute BREAKING POINT. We will want to give up and just buy the damn store bought snacks sometimes. We will want to just order the pizza or buy a loaf of bread. We will want to watch a TV show rather than write the blog post or make that reel. But we are going to try a little more. We will be brave with a new recipe this week. We will choose learning a new technique over opting for the convenience this world has so readily offered us.
And the days we can’t, we will choose grace for ourselves.
The commitment I make is to share the imperfect, messy, guessing, trying & failing, forward moving, continually evolving action that I take. I hope it helps. And I hope you try too.
Let’s go mommas. Let’s pave the way to the lives we are craving.
